Importance of Umrah

The importance of  Umrah A holy act which their beloved Prophet, Muhammad PBUH, carried twice in His lifetime. It apparently resembles the Hajj, which is because every Hajj is accompanied by a prior Umrah.

The Prophet PBUH said that “The accepted Hajj has no other reward, except Paradise.” [Bukhari] #1773 The Umrah is known to be an expiration of one’s sins. Hazrat Abu Hurairah, a close companion of the Prophet PBUH, reported a saying of the Prophet PBUH: “An Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the next, and Hajj, which is accepted will receive no other reward than Paradise.” [Muslim]. He further reported that Holy Prophet PBUH says that: “Whoever performs Hajj/ Umrah to this House (Ka’aba) and does not approach his wife for sexual relations nor commits sins (while performing Hajj, Umrah), he will come out as sinless as a newly-born child.” [Bukhari]

According to the saying of Ayesha, the mother of the loyal Muslims: I asked the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)) “Messenger of Allah is their jihad for women” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Yes, there is jihad upon them, there is no fighting involved in it, Hajj and Umrah.” [Ibn Majah] #3013.

Minor Pilgrimage (Umrah) Hadeeths

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “(The performance of) ‘Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise.” Narrated Ibn Juraij: Ikrima bin Khalid asked Ibn ‘Umar about performing ‘Umrah before Hajj. Ibn ‘Umar replied, “There is no harm in it.” ‘Ikrima said, “Ibn ‘Umar also said, ‘The Prophet had performed ‘Umrah before performing Hajj.'”Narrated ‘Ikrima bin Khalid: “I asked Ibn ‘Umar the same (as above).”

Narrated Mujahid: Ursa bin AzZubair and I entered the Mosque (of the Prophet) and saw ‘Abdullah bin Umar sitting near the dwelling place of Aisha and some people were offering the Duha prayer. We asked him about their prayer and he replied that it was a heresy. He (Ursa) then asked him how many times the Prophet had performed ‘Umra. He replied, ‘Four times; one of them was in the month of Rajab.” We disliked to contradict him. Then we heard ‘Aisha, the Mother of faithful believers cleaning her teeth with Siwak in the dwelling place. ‘Ursa said, “O Mother! O Mother of the believers! Don’t you hear what Abu ‘Abdur Rahman is saying?” She said, “What does he say?” ‘Ursa said, “He says that Allah’s Apostle performed four ‘Umra and one of them was in the month of Rajab.” ‘Aisha said, “May Allah be merciful to Abu ‘Abdur Rahman! The Prophet did not perform any ‘Umrah except that he was with him, and he never performed any ‘Umrah in Rajab.”
Narrated ‘Ursa bin Az-Zubair: I asked ‘Aisha (whether the Prophet had performed ‘Umra in Rajab). She replied, “Allah’s Apostle never performed any ‘Umrah in Rajab.”

Narrated Qatada: I asked Anas how many times the Prophet had performed Umrah. He replied, “Four times. 1. Umrah of Hudaibiya in Dhi-l-Qa’da when the pagans hindered him; 2. ‘Umra in the following year in Dhi-l-Qa’da after the peace treaty with them (the pagans); 3. Umrah from Al-Jr’rana where he distributed the war booty.” I think he meant the booty (of the battle) of Hunain. I asked, “How many times did he perform Hajj?” He (Anas) replied, “Once. ”
Narrated Qatada: I asked Anas (about the Prophet’s Umrah) and he replied, “The Prophet performed Umrah when the pagans made him return, and Umrah of al-Hudaibiya (the next year), and another Umrah in Dhi-l-Qa’da, and another ‘Umrah in combination with his Hajj.”
Narrated Hammam: The Prophet performed four Umrah (three) in Dhi-l-Qa’da except the (one) ‘Umra which he performed with his Hajj: His ‘Umra from Al-hudaibiya, and the one of the following year, and the one from Al-Jr’rana where he distributed the booty (of the battle) of Hunain, and another ‘Umra with his Hajj.
Narrated Abu Ishaq: I asked Masruq, ‘Ata’ and Mujahid (about the Umrah of Allah’s Apostle). They said, “Allah’s Apostle had performed Umrah in Dhi-l-Qa’da before he performed Hajj.” I heard Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib saying, “Allah’s Apostle had performed ‘Umrah in Dhi-l-Qa’da twice before he performed Hajj.”

Narrated Ata: I heard Ibn ‘Abbas saying, “Allah’s Apostle asked an Ansari woman (Ibn ‘Abbas named her but ‘Ata’ forgot her name), ‘What prevented you from performing Hajj with us?’ She replied, ‘We have a camel and the father of so-and-so and his son (i.e. her husband and her son) rode it and left one camel for us to use for irrigation.’ He said (to her), ‘Perform Umrah when Ramadan comes, for Umrah in Ramadan is equal to Hajj (in reward),’ or said something similar.”

Easy ways to earn great rewards

This does not mean that we are exempt from the obligation to perform the pilgrimage once in our lives, but it means that we can engage in rituals of worship that will earn us great rewards.

As we saw images of thousands of pilgrims flooding into Makkah and the white tents springing up in Mina, our hearts longed to be there. Some of us were unable to perform Haj this year, and we feel that we missed out on a great opportunity to earn rewards and to wipe out our sins.

For those who wish to win the rewards from Allah and attain His mercy and forgiveness but were unable to perform Haj, there are acts of worship that could be equal in rewards to the rewards for Haj. This does not mean that we are exempt from the obligation to perform the pilgrimage once in our lives, but it means that we can engage in rituals of worship that will earn us great rewards.

Forgive others so that Allah may forgive you. Holding rancor and hatred towards others who have wronged you is keeping you from being a better person.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) was sitting with a group of his companions in the mosque and he said, “A man will now enter [who is] from the people of Paradise.”

A certain companion walked in, a seemingly regular man. Later, it happened again, and then a third time, and each time this man was described by the Prophet (peace be upon him) as an inhabitant of Paradise.

Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-Aaas  wanted to find out what was so special about this man, so he asked the man if he could stay at his house for three days. While staying with him, Abdullah watched him closely but he noticed that the man did not do anything out of the ordinary. So after three days, Abdullah told the man the reason why he requested to stay with him, and he asked him what it was that could be the reason why he was from the people of Paradise.

The man could not think of anything, but he said “Every night, before I go to sleep, I forgive whoever has wronged me. I remove any bad feelings towards anyone from my heart.”
Therefore, forgiving others can make us among the people of Paradise.

Praying Fajr in congregation and then dedicating your time for the remembrance of Allah until the sun rises can be equivalent to the reward for Haj.

Anas, the close companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever prays the Fajr prayer in congregation and then he remains sitting mentioning Allah until the sun rises, and then he prays two Rak’ahs, will receive the reward of one Hajj and one Umrah, complete, complete, complete.” (At-Tirmithi)

If we were unable to be among the pilgrims in Makkah this year, we can still be worshippers in the mosques in any city of the world, and we can anticipate great rewards from Allah. Going to the mosque to pray in congregation is highly rewarded, and walking to the mosque is even better. Do not leave the mosque as soon as Fajr prayer is over; sit in the mosque to mention Allah’s name and read the Qur’an and supplicate. How amazing would you feel if the angels were asking Allah to forgive you for your sins?

Abu Hurayrah, the well known transmitter of Hadith, reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “The angels supplicate in favor of one of you so long as he remains in the place where he performed Salat [prayer] in a state of ablution. They [the angels] say, ‘O Allah forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him.’” (Al-Bukhari)

Join a study group at your local mosque, whether it is to read the Qur’an or study its meanings or to study sayings of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Whether you go to learn or to help someone else learn, your rewards will be as great as that of a pilgrim; just make sure that your intention is to seek the rewards from Allah.

Abu Umamah reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever leaves for the mosque in the morning for no reason but to learn goodness or teach others, then he will have a reward as if he has completed the Haj pilgrimage.” (Al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr)

Many of us do not place much importance on the voluntary prayer, Al-Duha prayer, but if we understood how tremendous its rewards are, we would not miss it.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “None could observe Duha prayer regularly except a penitent.” (At-Tabarani)

A penitent person is someone who repents, who feels sorrow for wrong doings, and who seeks forgiveness from God.

As for the time to pray Al-Duha, it is from sunrise until shortly before noon. You can pray two Rak’aat, or four or six or more.

Donate to orphans, widows, and those in need. We should be giving charity and supporting those in need all year round, and especially in blessed times like Ramadan and Dhul Hijjah.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) informs us in his Hadith in which he said, “The most beloved of people according to Allah is he who brings most benefit to people, and the most beloved of deeds according to Allah the Mighty, the Magnificent, is that you bring happiness to a fellow Muslim, or relieve him of distress, or pay off his debt or stave away hunger from him. It is more beloved to me that I walk with my Muslim brother in his time of need than I stay secluded in the mosque for a month.” (At-Tabarani)

Seeking Allah’s blessings in Ramadan

PRAISE and thanks to Allah who has made us reach the blessed month of Ramadan yet again this year. He made it a month of mercy, forgiveness, du’a and multiplied rewards.

Every night of this blessed month, He invites the fortunate ones who witness it, to race and compete with each other in doing righteous deeds. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said “On the first night of the month of Ramadan, the devils are chained, the jinn are restrained, and the gates of Hellfire are closed and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of its gates are closed. A caller announces: ‘O seeker of good, come near! O seeker of evil, stop short! Allah will save them from the Hellfire and that is during every night of Ramadan’.” (At-Tirmidhi, 682)

Ramadan is a golden opportunity for all of us who hope to be saved from the Hellfire and yearn to dwell in Paradise. This is not a month of socializing and feasting even though it is common to see this around us. This is a month of competing with each other in improving our relationship with our Creator, a month where we ignore all distractions and race to Him by doing lots of good deeds. Allah says, “And vie one with another for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Paradise as wide as are the heavens and the earth, prepared for those who ward off (evil).” (Qur’an, 3:133)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “There has come to you the month of Ramadan, a month of blessing, in which Allah covers you with grace, sending down mercy, forgiving sins and answering supplication. Allah looks at your competition in doing good there in and boasts of you before His angels. So show Allah goodness from yourselves, for truly the wretched person is the one who is deprived of the Mercy of Allah during this month.” (At Tabarani)

The Messenger (peace be upon him) and his companions would pray, fast, spend time with the Qur’an and be obedient to Allah all year round but in Ramadan, they would maximize their efforts to excel in various good deeds. Nothing can be better for us than following their footsteps in this world and then being rewarded by having their company in the Hereafter. The Messenger (peace be upon him) mentioned many actions which, if performed sincerely, grant us great rewards.

The best of such actions in Ramadan is fasting, which has been made obligatory by the Almighty. The exact reward for fasting has not been specified but it is expected to be tremendous because of the way this hadith describes it: “Every deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied between ten and seven hundred times. Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, said: Except fasting. It is for Me and I shall reward for it. He gives up his desires and his food for My sake.” (Muslim, 1151)

We need to perfect our fast by not just avoiding food and drink but also false and hateful speech and deeds so the rewards can be maximized. According to another Hadith, there is a gate to Paradise that is called Ar-Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection, it will say: ‘Where are those who fasted?’ When the last (one who fasted) has passed through the gate, it will be locked. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

The blessed month of Ramadan is a celebration of the Qur’an as the blessed Book was revealed in it. Striving hard to spend the month in reading, reciting and listening to the Qur’an carries huge rewards. Regarding reciting it, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward, and this reward will be multiplied by 10. I am not saying that ‘Alif, Laam, Meem’ is a letter, rather I am saying that ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Laam’ is a letter and ‘Meem’ is a letter.” (Tirmidhi, 2910)

For those who listen to the Qur’an attentively, it was said that mercy does not come quickly to anyone than the one who listens to the Qur’an according to the words of Allah: “So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.” (Qur’an, 7:204) The words “you may” make it mandatory for Allah! (Tafsir Al-Qurtubi)

There is a narration by Ibn Abbas that emphasizes the need to be generous in giving all kinds of charity in Ramadan: “Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) was the most generous of people and he was the most generous in the month of Ramadan when Jibreel would meet him. Jibreel used to meet him every night of Ramadan to teach him the Qur’an.” (Bukhari, 1716, Muslim, 4268)

Speaking of charity, you can also easily get the reward of fasting not just 30 days in the blessed month, but 60, 90 and so on! The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever gives a fasting person (food or drink to break their fast), they will have similar to the reward of the one who fasted, without any decrease for the one who fasted.” (At-Tirmidhi, authenticated by Al-Albani) Buy some dates and hand them over at a masjid, for the worshippers at the time of breaking the fast or hand over bottles of cold water and small packets of dates on the roadsides at the time of Maghrib. If you are unable to do any of that, then just helping out in the kitchen and setting up Iftar with dates and cold water for your family will bring a similar reward, Insha Allah.

Making extra voluntary prayer along with the 5 obligatory ones is another way to race to Paradise according to the narration of Rabi’a bin Kaab who said: “I was with Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) one night and I brought him water and what he required. He said to me: ‘Ask (for anything you like)’. I said: I ask for your company in Paradise. He (peace be upon him) said: ‘Or anything else other than it?’ I said: That is all (what I require). He said: ‘Then help me to achieve this for you by devoting yourself to frequent sujood (prostrations)’.” (Muslim)

According to a Hadith, performing an Umrah in Ramadan is like accompanying the Prophet (peace be upon him) on Haj. (Bukhari) But as for those who live far away from the blessed land of Makkah and feel sad for not being able to perform Umrah in this blessed month, they can still get the rewards of Haj and Umrah.

“Race to (all that is) good,” says Allah in the Qur’an (2:148) and one can think of no better time to do this except in the blessed season that we find ourselves in.

According to a Hadith, whoever prays Fajr prayer in congregation, and then sits and remembers Allah until the sun rises, and then prays 2 units of voluntary prayer (Al-Ishraq), he will gain a reward equal to that of performing a perfect, perfect, perfect Haj and Umrah. (Al-Albani, Saheeh Al-Jaami-6346)

The call to success

Amidst the pandemonium of life, one is exposed to different varieties of sounds, some beneficial to us and some harmful.
In most cases, listening to the sounds around us is a passive, involuntary action.
However, if you voluntarily listen to the call to prayer as it echoes from the mosques, with awareness, with the proper intention, and with the proper etiquette and decorum, you can earn the rewards that will grant you the most wondrous thing … paradise!
It’s true. Indeed our Lord is Al-Wadood (The most Loving) that He has given us so many opportunities to taste the bliss of paradise.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Paradise is affirmed for him who pronounces the adhan (call to prayer), sixty good deeds will be written for him, and for every iqamah, he will get thirty good deeds.” [authentic Hadith, reported by Ibn Majah, authenticated by al-Albani]
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, “We were with Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him), when Bilal got up and called for the prayer. When he finished, Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)
said, “Whoever says (the same words) as he says with certainty, will enter paradise.” [An-Nisaa’i, authenticated by Al-Albani]
One should realize the significance of the adhan, for it is the call to worship the King of the Kings, our Creator, Allah. Indeed the one who calls to such an important message is rewarded beautifully, just as the person who hears it and repeats it. Who ever thought that we would be rewarded with the gardens of paradise just for saying the adhan? We should appreciate how important the adhan is.
In another Hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The mu’adhin (the one who calls for prayer) will be forgiven, as much as he raises his voice (with the adhan), and everything fresh and dry that hears him will ask forgiveness for him (in another version will witness for him or attest for him).” [Ahmad, Abu Dawoud, at-Tabarani, and authenticated by Al-Albani]
Another amazing Hadith is narrated by Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “When the Mu’adhin says, “ (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest),” and you say, “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest”, and when he says, “I testify that there is no God but Allah,” you say, “I testify that there is no God but Allah”. When he says, “I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,” you say, “I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”, and when he says, “Come to prayer”, you say, “There is neither might nor any power except by Allah”. When he says, “Come to success”, you say, “There is neither might nor any power except by Allah”. When he says, “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest”, then respond, “Allah is the Greatest”. When he says, “There is no God but Allah), if you say from your heart (with sincerity), “There is no God but Allah,” you will enter Paradise.” [Sahih Muslim]
If we listen carefully to the words of the call to prayer, we will realize that truly the adhan is one of the most important reminders. It is the reminder to salah (prayer), a reminder that indeed in salah is our success.
Another beautiful Hadith: Isa bin Talhah said, “I was with Mu’awiyah bin Abu Sufyan when the Mu’adhin came in and called for prayer. Mu’awiyah said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say, “The ones who call for prayer will have the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection.” [Sahih Muslim]
This Hadith highlights how much we should value and respect the mu’adhin, and how much we should pay close attention to adhan.
The mu’adhin receives rewards from Allah every time someone has heard the adhan and went to perform the prayer.
The phrase “will have the longest necks” as mentioned in the above Hadith has been given different interpretations. It may mean that they are the ones who long for the mercy of Allah more than anyone else. Another interpretation is that their necks will grow longer on the Day of Requital and so sweat will not reach them, for everyone will sweat on that day depending on his deeds: sweat will reach up to one’s ankles or knees or waists. In the case of some people, sweat will reach up to their mouths. Another interpretation is that those who call to prayer will have an honorable and great status on the Day of Judgment.
Indeed, the case of men and women is strange; they keep running behind success, yet disregard the call to success.
Therefore, I appeal to all my brothers and sisters to truly pay attention to the adhan and respond accordingly. We exhibit such keen concentration in so many other frivolities that take up our time. Our conscience ought to prick us the next time we ignore the adhan!
Another excellent practice that I encourage Muslims to do is mentioned in the following Hadith. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “A supplication made between the adhan and the iqamah is not rejected.” [Abu Dawud, authenticated by Al-Albani]
Finally let us all always keep in mind the Hadith in which Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said, “Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Whenever you hear the adhan, say what the mu’adhin is saying.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari] That is a simple task to do with great rewards, we just need to be more mindful and aware.

Performing Hajj or ‘Umrah and praying in the Two Holy Mosques are some of the greatest acts of worship. Therefore, when the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), was asked about the best deed, he said: “Belief in Allaah and His Messenger.”When he was asked about the next deed, he answered:“Doing Jihaad in the cause of Allaah.” When he was asked about the next deed, he answered: “An accepted Hajj.” [Al-Bukhaari]
Hajj is one of the pillars of Islam and the faith of the Muslim cannot be complete without performing it in the proper legislated way once the person has the ability to do so. Allaah The Almighty mentioned some of the benefits that the pilgrim attains; as He Says (what means): {And proclaim to the people theHajj; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass -* That they may witness benefits for themselves} [Quran 22:27-28]
The religious Sharee‘ah-related benefits are the greatest benefits gained for the Hereafter that bring the person closer to Paradise, distance him from Hell, make the scales of good deeds heavier, and so on. Some of these benefits are:
Paradise is the reward of an accepted Hajj:
Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said:“The performance of two ‘Umrahs expiates the sins committed in the interval between them and the accepted Hajj has no other reward but Paradise.” [Al-Albaani: Saheeh]
The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said to ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas may Allaah be pleased with him: “Do you not know that Islam effaces all the (previous) misdeeds, Hijrah effaces all the (previous) misdeeds, and also Hajj effaces all the (previous) misdeeds?”[Muslim]
Hajj is one of the best forms of Jihaad in the cause of Allaah:
‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her said, “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah! We see that Jihaad is the best of deeds; should we not engage in Jihaad?’ He said: ‘For you (women), the best act of Jihaad is to perform Hajj that is accepted (by Allaah).’” [Al-Bukhaari]
Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “The Jihaad of the old, the weak and of women is to perform Hajj and ‘Umrah.” [Al-Albaani: Hasan by virtue of a corroborating narration]
Hajj and ‘Umrah cause richness and purification:
Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullaah may Allaah be pleased with him said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “Make Hajj and ‘Umrah alternately because both of them rid one of poverty and sins as the blacksmith’s bellows removes all the impurities from iron, gold and silver.” [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi; Al-Albaani: Hasan Saheeh]
Hajj elevates ranks and removes sins:
Ibn ‘Umar may Allaah be pleased with him said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “No foot of the pilgrim’s camel moves unless Allaah writes for the pilgrim a good deed or removes one of his sins or raises him one rank.”[Al-Albaani: Hasan]
Acceptance of Hajj conditioned with providing food and exchanging the greetings of peace:
Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullaah may Allaah be pleased with him said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “An accepted Hajj has no reward but Paradise.”He was asked, “How can it be accepted?” He said: “By offering food and saying good words.” [Al-Albaani: Saheeh by virtue of corroborating narrations] Another narration reads: “By offering food and spreading the greetings of peace.” [Ahmad; Al-Albaani: Hasan]
Supplication of those who perform Hajj or ‘Umrah is accepted:
Ibn ‘Umar may Allaah be pleased with him said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “The one who goes out to fight in the cause of Allaah, the one who is performing Hajj and the one who is performing ‘Umrah are the visitors of Allaah whom He invited and they accepted His invitation and asked Him and He gave to them.” [Al-Albaani: Hasan]
Reward of performing ‘Umrah in Ramadan:
Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “The performance of ‘Umrah in Ramadan equals (the reward of performing) Hajj.” [Al-Albaani: Saheeh]
Reward of spending money in Hajj and ‘Umrah:
‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her narrated that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said to her during her ‘Umrah: “You will be rewarded proportionally to your pain and expenditure.”[Al-Albaani: Saheeh]
Reward of the one who goes out to perform Hajj or ‘Umrah and then dies:
Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allaah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him – his reward has already become incumbent upon Allaah. And Allaah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.} [Quran 4:100]
Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him said that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “Whoever goes out to perform Hajj and dies, the reward of Hajj will be recorded for him until the Day of Resurrection. Whoever goes out to perform ‘Umrah and dies, the reward of ‘Umrah will be recorded for him until the Day of Resurrection. Whoever goes out for battle in the Cause of Allaah and dies, the reward of the fighter in the cause of Allaah will be recorded for him until the Day of Resurrection.” [Al-Albaani: Saheeh by virtue of corroborating narrations]
Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him said that while a man was with the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), during Hajj, he fell from his mount and it kicked him and he died. Consequently, the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “Wash him with water and Sidr, shroud him in his two garments, do not put perfume on him and do not cover his head for he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment saying Talbiyah.” [Al-Albaani: Saheeh]
